Privacy Policy

Last Updated: March 24, 2026

Welcome to Practice MCAT. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring your data is handled securely and transparently. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information to provide you with the best preparation experience possible.

1. Information We Collect

To provide, maintain, and improve the Practice MCAT platform, we collect the following types of data:

A. Account & Authentication Data

When you register for an account, we collect basic information necessary to secure your access and personalize your experience:

  • Identity Information: Name and Email Address.
  • Authentication Data: Encrypted passwords or securely hashed tokens if you choose to sign in via third-party providers (like Apple or Google).

B. Device & Technical Information

We collect technical information to ensure our app functions correctly across different devices and to manage free trial eligibility:

  • Device Identifiers: We generate and store a unique, anonymized Device ID (such as the iOS Identifier for Vendor or Android ID) to manage 7-day trials preventing abuse of the free tier.
  • Push Notification Tokens: We collect device-specific Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) tokens to securely deliver study reminders, chat notifications, and important updates to your device.

C. Learning & Progression Data

To provide our core educational services, including AI tutoring and performance analytics, we securely store your study data on our servers:

  • Quiz and Test Data: Answers submitted, scores, time taken per question, and overall module completion status.
  • Interaction Data: Bookmarks, saved notes, flashcard progress, and modules viewed.
  • Communications: Messages sent within the in-app Live Chat support system, including optionally uploaded images for troubleshooting.

D. Analytics & Performance Data

We use industry-standard tools (Firebase Analytics and Microsoft Clarity) to understand how the app is used and to improve the user interface. This data is aggregated and does not identify you personally in reports:

  • Usage Metrics: Screens viewed, buttons clicked, videos watched (including duration), and navigation paths.
  • Crash Reports: If the app encounters an error, Firebase Crashlytics automatically collects technical state data (such as device model, OS version, and stack traces) to help our engineers identify and fix bugs rapidly.

E. Purchase & Subscription Data

We offer premium subscriptions managed securely through RevenueCat and Apple/Google's native payment systems:

  • Transaction Receipts: We process anonymous purchase receipts or transaction IDs to verify your "Pro" subscription status and unlock premium content.
  • Payment Details Are Not Collected: We do not collect, process, or store your credit card numbers or raw financial information. All billing is handled directly by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store).

2. How We Use Your Information

We utilize the collected data strictly to operate and enhance our services:

  • Service Delivery: To authenticate you, save your test progress, synchronize your data across multiple devices, and deliver push notifications.
  • Personalization: To tailor the AI Tutor's responses based on your performance and recommend relevant study materials.
  • Security & Anti-Fraud: To enforce our terms of service, specifically using Device IDs to prevent trial exploitation.
  • Stability & Optimization: To pinpoint app crashes and optimize screen layouts based on aggregated telemetry data.

3. Third-Party Service Providers

We employ trusted, industry-leading third-party services to power specific technical features. These providers are bound by strict data processing agreements:

  • Backend Cloud: Our backend infrastructure that securely stores your user profile, test progress, and chat messages.
  • Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Cloud Messaging): Used for aggregated usage analytics, crash reporting, and delivering push notifications.
  • Microsoft Clarity: Used for behavioral analytics (e.g., heatmaps) to help us understand app navigation and improve UI design.
  • RevenueCat: Used to securely track and manage your in-app purchase entitlements without exposing your raw payment data to our servers.

4. Data Security and Retention

  • Encryption: All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted using standard HTTPS/TLS protocols.
  • Retention: We retain your account and progression data for as long as your account is active. You may request account deletion at any time via the in-app support chat, whereupon we will permanently erase your personal data from our active databases.

5. Your Rights & Choices

Depending on your platform (iOS/Android), you have full control over your data:

  • Notifications: You can opt out of push notifications at any time via your device's native Settings app.
  • App Tracking Transparency (iOS): On Apple devices, we respect your choices regarding cross-app tracking. Our analytics tools are configured to respect privacy boundaries and mostly operate on aggregated, anonymized datasets.
